A bold new voice in the Wisconsin arts scene is making its debut. Wisconsin Dance Theatre, a newly established professional dance company, is making its debut this year with a mission to elevate the human experience through the power of dance. Formed in 2025 under the fiscal sponsorship of M and M Team, Wisconsin Dance Theatre aims to expand access to professional concert dance throughout Wisconsin, especially in communities where those opportunities have historically been limited.
This milestone follows the continued growth of the Wisconsin Dance Theatre Conservatory (WDTC), a for-profit ballet school founded in 2021 with a vision to offer a customized ballet program that draws students from across the United States for training, competition, and networking. Since its founding, WDTC has expanded to include a full-time physical location in Southeast Wisconsin. Its nonprofit professional affiliate, Wisconsin Dance Theatre, works in tandem with the Conservatory and is led by Artistic Director and Ballet Master, both proud Wisconsin natives, who share a deep commitment to cultivating a vibrant arts community in the state.
Wisconsin Dance Theatre is led by Artistic Director Samuel Huberty, a native of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, where the company merges world-class artistic direction with deep local roots. Huberty’s career has spanned the globe, with performances across the U.S., South Africa, Kenya, and Israel. Most recently, he danced with the Jerusalem Ballet and previously held the rank of demi-soloist with the South Carolina Ballet. His return to Wisconsin marks a new chapter, not just for his own artistic journey, but for the state’s dance landscape.
Based in Hartland, Wisconsin Dance Theatre draws students primarily from the Lake Country area while also attracting talent from across the country. This unique blend of local and national dancers allows aspiring performers to train alongside working professionals and gain mentorship in a dynamic, high-level environment. With each show, Wisconsin Dance Theatre assembles a rotating cast of talent, giving audiences something fresh and exciting every time they attend.
The company’s debut production, A Hero’s Homecoming, will premiere on July 12th in both Hartland and Elkhorn. While more details on the performance will be announced separately, the production is an original ballet created by Huberty, set at the close of World War II and brought to life with live jazz music performed by local musicians. The show is a heartfelt tribute to resilience, romance, and the stories of America’s returning heroes.
For Wisconsin audiences, the arrival of Wisconsin Dance Theatre represents more than just another performance to attend, it’s an invitation to be part of something new, ambitious, and deeply rooted in the community. At a time when the performing arts are searching for connection, accessibility, and impact, Wisconsin Dance Theatre is stepping forward with a vision to inspire, educate, and enrich lives through the universal language of dance.
