Milwaukee, WI (August 15, 2025) — Wisconsin is setting the national standard for clean energy transformation. On August 4, 2025, Green Homeowners United (GHU) celebrated the first anniversary of Wisconsin’s groundbreaking launch of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) HOMES rebate program—the first state in the nation to roll out this landmark initiative. With Milwaukee emerging as a beacon of energy efficiency, equity, and green job creation, GHU has been at the forefront, enrolling more homeowners than any contractor across the country.
Governor Tony Evers, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, Congresswoman Gwen S. Moore, State Rep. Supreme Moore Omokunde, and Mandela Barnes, former Lieutenant Governor and President of Forward Together Wisconsin, gathered with community leaders and energy experts at the Urban Ecology Center – Washington Park to mark this historic milestone. The event showcased how the HOMES & HEAR rebate programs have delivered tangible savings to homeowners, slashed carbon emissions, and driven economic opportunity in historically underserved communities.
“Wisconsin’s pioneering approach to the IRA HOMES rebate program is changing lives,” said Sadie Tuescher, President of Green Homeowners United. “Over the past year, we’ve empowered thousands of homeowners, especially in low-income and communities of color, to lower their energy bills and shrink their carbon footprint. This program isn’t just about rebates; it’s about building a more equitable and sustainable future for all Wisconsinites.”
Since its launch on August 1, 2024, Green Homeowners United has emerged as the nation’s leading enroller in the program, helping more homeowners access critical upgrades than any other contractor. Their targeted outreach and hands-on support have ensured that the program reaches those who need it most, addressing both the climate crisis and economic inequality head-on.
The anniversary event featured panels focused on expanding access to energy efficiency in diverse neighborhoods and developing a skilled green workforce to meet growing demand. The collaboration between elected officials, labor unions, climate advocates, and contractors highlights Wisconsin’s commitment to leadership in the clean energy transition.
Looking ahead, Green Homeowners United is eager to accelerate enrollment and deepen community partnerships to make energy-efficient homes a reality for all. Their vision is clear: sustainable energy savings, reduced carbon emissions, and economic empowerment for every Wisconsin homeowner regardless of income or background.
“We’re just getting started,” Tuescher affirmed. “Together with our partners and community, we will expand the reach and impact of this transformative program, making Wisconsin a true model for the nation.”
